I promise not to make this a Dog blog, but I have to work in a few shots in every now and then. DogChops decided she wanted to be a pirate for Halloween. So a few days ago I caught her practicing her pirate face. Do you guys think she can pull it off? I think she needs an eye patch. I'll make one for her out of orange felt to match with her fur!
Now on to crafts! Tonight I found a craft blog that really inspired me. It's run by a girl named Erin and it's called Schlosser Designs. She has loads and loads of tutorials, patterns, cool ideas, terrific pictures.. the list goes on and on. Yesterday she posted a pattern for a pumpkin that I just loved! I really love pumpkins (any and all kinds). It looked like an easy enough pattern so after dinner I set to work!
First...I had to learn the blanket stitch. You Tube came through for me yet again and I found THIS tutorial on how to figure it out. I watched several but this was the best one for me. She really talks you through it. If you have never done the blanket stitch before watch this and give it a shot. It's a really cool stitch that you can use all over the place.
Once...you have that mastered, all you have to do is print out this really simple pattern (the stem and the leaf shaped pieces). Cut them out and trace each on to you fabric (in the directions she gives you some really good tips on how to cut 3 at a time).
You literally piece them together - sewing down one side on all three pieces and then you sew those three together - and before you know it you have a pumpkin. The longest part of this for me was that blasted blanket stitch. But once I had that down it was just a matter of time. I think I had this together in about 2 1/2 hours (including the how to blanket stitch learning session).
You'll notice Douglas and Matilda (thanks Christina J for naming her!!!) sitting in the background admiring my handiwork. I think there might be a wedding soon.. see the way she's loving looking at him? haha
Just wanted to say that I am sorry the pics are so bad. I had to take these at night and they never come out as good with the light I have here at the house (as compared to natural daylight). I even have a light box and set the pumpkin up in there but he looked wrong. Ah well.
Have a nice day tomorrow you guys.
