About a week ago I was contacted by a very nice lady named Melissa Bickle (she's the master mind behind the Ribbon Ring). She wanted to know if I would be interested in doing a review of her product on my blog. umm.. I think it took me all of .0001 milliseconds to think about it and say YES!
I had actually been thinking about getting the Ribbon Ring after seeing it in Amanda's Scrapbook Room. I have to pause here.. if you have never seen her Scraproom - I really think you should take my advice and go CHECK IT OUT. It's simply fantastic! You'll need a bib though.. you are gonna drool.
So that fabulous plastic bin pictured above with the long skinny ribbon organizer to it's left is how I was storing my ribbon (it kinda looks like a ribbon explosion happened but that's really how I had it stored). I use a lot of ribbon and was constantly rummaging around in that bin trying to find what I needed.
Compared to some people, I do not really have that much ribbon. Do a search for scrap rooms on google and you'll see what I mean. There are some folks out there who have LOADS of ribbon. Enough to circle the planet.
I received my Ribbon Ring Starter Set in the mail Friday so Saturday was the day I decided to embark upon my mass ribbon organization project. Melissa suggests cutting about a yard of ribbon to hang on each ribbon tag and then storing whatever else you have left. I thought was a good approach so I unpacked all of my ribbon and organized it by color and then started cutting yard lengths off - spool-by-spool (I basically cut one piece that I felt was a good size and then used it to measure all of the other ones). When I was done I had this massive pile of ribbon (it was really pretty in a tangled sort of way).
The starter set comes with 30 ribbon tags and I was doubting if I was going to have enough to store all of my ribbon. I was wrong. You can generally get about 2 ribbons on each card (sometimes it was 3 and sometimes only 1) - it really depends on how wide your ribbon is. But I literally had exactly enough cards for my ribbon stash. I was really thrilled!
One of the things I liked about doing this little organization project was that this gave me an opportunity to really "see" some of the ribbon I have. As I was cutting each piece out I noticed how some colors went really well together (that I would have never paired together otherwise) and I also took notice of a few ribbons that I had never unwrapped. The colors really pop when they are out from the auspices of those dirty protective covers and ribbon spools. I have cards on the brain now.. I can hardly wait to get started!
I just want to say one last thing about this product. When I had everything sorted and on the ring I ran outside to show RonChops. I could not believe how it had condensed that plastic bin and long ribbon sorter box into such a compact and pretty arrangement (he was pretty amazed too). I have it hanging right next to where I sit now and will definitely be getting another starter pack!
Big thanks to Melissa from Ribbon Ring for giving me the opportunity to share this product with all of you.
Happy Monday!
