Remember how I told you guys I had a plan for those little tags (seems like years ago but it was just yesterday).. well here they are. Your simple average tag turned into a little mini card! How fantastic is that!?! And guess what.. they are EASY to make. Grab your craft overalls and let's make some cards! ok ok I'll tone down the enthusiasm just a bit.
So here goes. My first every tag-turned-into-a-mini-card tutorial. First you start with the tags I posted yesterday (or really I guess you could use any ole punched out, cut out, torn out circle). I kinda mixed up the pics here (using some circles and some scallops). I just love scallops!
Once you have your printed tag you are going to want to make another one exactly like it but on plain paper (white or colored or whatever you want really) (this is where those punches come in handy). You could trace around the original to make the backing. Whatever works best for you. I punched mine.
I lined the circle up on a cutting mat so the top and left side fit snugly into the corner (I tried to draw little lines so you could see what I mean). Once I had that done I lined a ruler up with one of the lines on the cutting mat and scored them using a bone folder (similar to the one HERE). HERE is a little overview on what scoring paper is all about in case you are not familiar with the term. I looked for a video and could not find anything good. The reason I line them up like this is so that if I am making a batch of cards they all have the score/fold in the same place. You do not need to be this persnickety - it's just a Lolly thing.
Once you are done scoring your card backs you are going to want to go ahead and fold them over and run over the seams to get a good crease (using your scoring device really helps make this tidy).
Once you are done with that you will need to get some sort of sticky stuff (I use this tape roller thing HERE). There are a zillion just like it out there. You can also use regular glue (you just have to wait for it to dry).
Flatten out the scored and folded circles so that the crease elbow is poking up at you (the edges of your circle should be on your flat surface).. did that make any sense? I tried to describe it about fourteen different ways and it just gets more confusing each time. So just check out this pic.
Ahhh.. any better? Apply your sticky stuff to that little flapper thing. You can then line the face and the back up together (don't let the sticky stuff touch anything till you have it all nice and lined up) and then press them together.
At this point (assuming you have not seen or done this before) you are going to want to call me and tell me how totally and completely thrilled you are with your new tag turned card (it's a trick of sorts). I can be reached at 1-800-CraftyLolly. Well not really but how cool would it be to have a phone number like that if a) your name was Lolly and b) you were into crafts.
Let me side track just a little bit to tell you a little story (which you may have already heard.. I cannot recall). When I was searching for a domain name for my site I really really wanted CraftyLolly.com.. but low and behold it was already taken. I went to the site to find out who the lucky Lolly was that had beat me to MY domain name and guess what. Lolly is actually a dog and her owner - Stephanie is actually the crafty one. It's not fair really. She and I have talked (Stephanie and I - not Lolly and I). It's all good (she knows she's lucky). You should go check out Lolly the Dog though.. we bear a striking resemblance really. Brown/white hair, brown eyes, trim nails. We could be related.
I have a little secret.. I had to come up with a story on the fly cause I was out of tutorial content/gibberish and needed to add in one more pic. So now that I have more ROOM here is another pic.
This pic shows a close-up of the edges glued/spackled together to form a sweet little card. hmmm. What else can say.
Ok I am yet again out of content/gibberish and unfortunately have no more pics to share. So I think if I just keep going for a little while longer I can get to the bottom of this image and throw in my Lolly bird signature (which really really needs a refresh here soon)..
I think that about does it. Oh wait! One more thing. I added a little tiny bow to the finished card at the top of the post. You can add embellishments to these little fellas (glitter (I know some people feel a little stomach heave at the thought of glitter.. but that's ok - some of us like it), bows, flowers, buttons to cover perhaps...????, those rhinestone sticker things (down glitter haters - rhinestones are cool too).. you name it you can add it to this card! You can also punch a little hole in it and add a ribbon tag HANGER.. ohhh fancy.
See.. I made it. With room to spare even. Let me know what you think AND.. plu-ease let me know if you make these! I wanna see!!!
Another set of tags should be out soon. It's going to be OWLS next folks (I so totally knew you guys would pick owls). You are getting predictable.
HUGS!
