Well now that the drama of the chocolate cobbler fobbler is over (the recipe is correct now.. honest). It's time to actually show you some ideas of how you can put this little fella together.
I was thrilled to hear from 4 people this past weekend who actually made the cobbler (3 of those lovely folks helped me figure out the mistakes )...YAY for attention to details! and YAY that no cobblers were ruined!
First let's do a little recap.... You can download the PDF of the Cobbler Template HERE. I added snowflakes to the back cause I thought it needed a little something extra. I think it's much better now!
The whole recipe is in this post HERE (if you want to skip the whole template and putting it together thing and get on with some chocolate cobbler making just go there).
So listed below is my attempt to show/tell you how to put it together for the gift aspect of it.
Chocolate Cobbler Instructions (for gift giving)
In 3 different ziploc bags or some sort of other bags that you can seal - combine the following ingredients.
1st Bag (label this bag cake mixture)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 cup sugar
2 Tbl baking cocoa
2nd Bag (label this bag chocolate sauce mixture)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup of baking cocoa
3rd Bag
1/2 cup chopped pecans
You can either use sticky labels (printed or written on) or a sharpie to label the bags. I would do a test first if you are using a sharpie to make sure it does not bleed through. You can even use some cute holiday labels if you have them. That would be a nice touch as well. hmmm maybe I should make some to go with this set??? I'll see what I can do.
Stack these bags one on top of the other and then stick them in another larger bag to keep them from sliding apart. I stacked mine from bottom to top like this (cake mix, chocolate sauce mix and pecans). I found some 4.5 inch wide bags at Walmart. They are clear cellophane bags. Nothing special and pretty affordable. But honestly you can use anything you like.. I think a larger ziploc might even work if you tape the top down (I taped the tops of my ingredients bags as well to make them look neater).
The recipe is on the template. So all you have to do is make up the template and place this little ingredient stack into it and viola.. you have a little gift made up.
So here is how to put the template together...
Using scissors or a paper trimmer. Cut along the dotted lines of the template.
You will want to score down both of the bottom lines of the templates (where the brown line is above the row of presents and the large blank space on the back piece).
This is what the scored pieces will look like once folded.
Once you have them folded you will want to use a glue tape roller (like I did in this pic) or another glue methodology to glue the two bottom pieces together. I put the glue tape on the inside bottom of the piece with the line of presents (labeled 'front') and then stuck the piece labeled 'back' on top of it (fancy printed sides facing opposite each other). I hope this makes sense!
Once you have them glued together it will look something like this. Make sure you remember to sign the bottom!
Here is what the bag of ingredients and the finished template should look like. Line up the top corners of the template and eyeball where the center is. Punch two holes about 1/2 inch apart for the ribbon.
Before you assemble everything you might want to run a line of dark brown ink down the brown line sides (like I did in this post HERE) and you should also consider putting some glue tape on the bottom inside of the template and along one side of the top. This just helps hold everything together and in place. Robyn and her hub actually punched holes through the main bag that holds all of the ingredients (and then stapled everything in the center at the top). You can also do something like that as well. It's just another way to get everything secure so it does not slide around too much.
Nextly I am going to attempt to show you how make the little bow that I put at the top of the cobbler (it's the same bow I use on my tards too). For a small sized bow cut a length of ribbon that's about 3 1/2 inches long. Mark the center with a dot (I used a sharpie). You will want to use something sticky to get everything to hold together. I used these little handy glue zots (you can find them on line HERE). As you make each fold place a little zot on the top of where the next piece of ribbon will go (see the pic below for a more detailed view of this).
You will want to cut a smaller piece of ribbon (about an inch long) to wrap around the little bow you have made (step 3 demonstrates this wrapping thing). This makes a perfect center covering for your little bow.
Once you have your little bow all ready to go - just use another Zot to place it on the top of your package!
I did the best I could to try to explain how to get the template together and then how to make the little bow. I hope it's clear enough for you to be able to do this as well. If you have any questions or if you need more clarification - just let me know and I'll do my best to help you get this right!
So did anyone notice that tag on the cobbler bag way way way up at the top of the post? The sparkly orange one??? Well.. tomorrows post is going to be another download and print template (with another tutorial) on making little matching tags that go with this cobbler template (or heck you could use them for regular presents too!).
So stay tuned...Virtual Lolly will be back tomorrow with more crafty happenin's...
P.S. If you see any mistakes or anything amiss.. please do not hesitate to let me know!
