Firstly I need to announce the winner from the giveaway last week! You can see who the winner is HERE and what she won HERE! I'll be in touch winner!!!
There will be another giveaway this Friday! Winners from the past two weeks.. don't give up on me! Your loot goes in the mail TODAY (Theresa...see that red Wendy there on the left.. she's headed your way)!!!
Last week I received an email from a LollyChops reader named Toni. She had a couple of questions about the Wendy the Bird pattern I posted a few weeks ago. It seems she's going to be making 6 Wendy's for her Thanksgiving table and needed a little clarification about how to put her together (I hope you will post pics of your beautiful table to the Wendy Flickr Group Toni)! How neat would that be to see first hand!
MomChops graciously took on the challenge of reviewing the pattern to make sure all right with it and discovered something pretty important. It seems that any variation in the belly placement means massive Wendy visual transformations. She can go from tall and thin to short and squatly within a matter of a inch (and anything in between produces some really wild alternatives). These two wildly varied Wendy's are actually made from the exact same pattern!!! Honest to pieces.
I wanted to take just a quick minute to give you a new pattern and share a few pics of how I put Wendy's together. I did not change any of the pieces (just the placement of the belly to the body).
So here we go!
I basically printed the existing pattern and drew in the second variation of where the belly could go (this is added to the new pattern I have posted below as well).
Place the two bird pieces right sides facing each other and lay in the belly where you want it (depending on which kind of Wendy you want). Pin the belly to each outside bird body piece (it should fit pretty well within the belly area).
For the shorter wider Wendy I move the belly up closer to her beak like so.
I clip the corners and trim all excess inside material and then right side out her. Once she's completely stuffed and sewn closed I then add the eyes (and wings if I am attaching any). I find that it's easier for me to get the eye placement right if she's completely together). Since I usually use small buttons for her eyes I use the longest needle I have and actually sew straight through her head from one side to the other to get her eyes attached. This helps to set them evenly and get them set in pretty snugly.
You can get the new updated Wendy Pattern --> HERE <--
and from the original post as well.
That's all for today! I'll be back tomorrow with a new download and print template that's Thanksgiving related!
Hope you have a terrific Monday!
P.S. Toni.. if you still have questions, let me know ok!
