Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend! I gotta say... W.O.W. and thanks to all of the love you guys sent our way Friday! I am just totally blown away by all of your comments! MomChops and SisterChops are coming over today to help me with the totally tubular giveaway! We'll be getting things ready to ship out and notifying the winners (woot~~~)!
On to the recipe/interview portion of our regularly scheduled program!
My guest today is Heather from Living-Senses! She has been a real trooper in dealing with me! She was scheduled appear April 4 and I did not have my act together... so she gracoiusly agreed to be my guest today instead!
Let's get rolling with the interview!
LollyChops: What topping(s) do you like on your pizza?
Heather: sun dried tomatoes, feta
cheese, pesto, and kalamata olives. No contest. Unless of course it's
fast food pizza, then I love Canadian Bacon and Pineapple. Forever and
always.
LollyChops: If you were a salad, which dressing would you pick?
Heather: Blue Cheese. Love that stuff.
LollyChops: What do you use to clean your dishes. Plain sponge, sponge with
scrubber attached to one side, scrubber handle thing with soap refill,
scrubber knob thing w/wo soap refill, kitchen towel, etc…
Heather: I've
recently learned to knit, and last night I cast off dish cloth number
7. I've been enjoying using my hand knit dish cloths lately. It's
really fun to open the dish cloth drawer and see all hand knits looking
back at me, too. I also have a soap filled scrubber for really sticky
things.
LollyChops: Favorite spice or spice blend?
Heather: My friend gave me a little gift bag full
of Penzey's spices for my birthday last year. The Sandwich Sprinkle has
been making it's way into almost everything lately. I also really like
my Green Curry Paste.
LollyChops: RonChops and I LOVE Penzey's too! Never had the sammich sprinkle though. We'll have to give it a shot! Northwoods Fire is our fav!
LollyChops: Have you ever started a vegetable garden. If the answer is yes - what
did you grown in your last one. If no, what would you grow in one if
you started it.
Heather: I lived in Arkansas for four years and we had a
beautiful yard and vegetable garden there. Mostly we grew tomatoes as
big as our heads and so much basil even the pesto didn't know what to
do. Since we've moved back to Idaho we've been slowly re-learning how
to garden. Last year we had lettuce, tomatoes, herbs, carrots, and
green beans. This year we are expanding and starting from seed. My
little baby seeds are just starting to poke their heads through to see
the light. GO LOCAL, BABY!! last year we did a go local challenge to
eat one local meal a week. Any one interested is welcome to join in
again this year. It's going to be a lot of fun!
LollyChops: Gas or electric?
Heather: Gas all the way.
On to the recipe!
This applesauce cake comes from my Grandmother Hattie Jane. I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but when I think of her, I think of this cake. It's a family favorite for sure. It makes great use of home canned applesauce (or store bought, too) which makes me happy. It's nice to feel connected to those who've gone before, and since I carry her middle name as my own I feel a special connection to Grandma Hattie Jane. When I found this recipe in an old cookbook I inherited from her, I knew it would be the recipe I shared here on Lolly Chops. Thank you so much for having me, Lolly.
If you're my Dad, you eat this cake warm in a bowl with milk, just like he did as a young boy. If you're me, you eat this cake warm and swimming in fresh whipped cream. Enjoy!
