Hi everyone! I have fun stuff to share today!
Firstly... Inspired 2011 Project Reveal!
I finally finished my project for Donna Downey's - Inspired 2011 workshop! Whew... I have been thinking about what to create for months now and it came to me at my usual 5am crafty think time (I get the best ideas first thing in the morning)! I knew I wanted to do something on canvas, I knew I wanted to use felt and I knew I wanted LOADS of teal. Well... I figure 2 out of 3 ain't bad right????
While there might not be any teal in my project, it's loaded with felt and jute and kinda treetacular (trees are some of my favorite crafty elements ever)!
This project is 14 x 14 and was created on a stretched canvas with a 1.5 inch edge (it's nice and thick so you can cover the sides with jute and buttons too)! I can hardly wait to see all of the variations everyone comes up with! I think it's really gonna be fun!
Live with Prima - This Thursday!!!
So... next up is a little project I created for my Live with Prima show on Jan. 13! It's completely DREAMY and can either be hung in your craft space (that's where I have mine) or in the bedroom of a very special little girl...and seriously people... brace yourselves... it's PINK!!!
110% PINK!
I don't even know who I am anymore.
First I create a tree project with NO teal...
...and now this...
Aliens invaded the craft room and made me do it.
That's the only explanation.
I need a cleanse...
hahaha...
(just trying to keep you guys on your toes)
You can get the kit for this class HERE (on sale for $39) from the loverly Kristina of Your Memories Here! Class is this Thursday - Jan. 13 and starts at 8:30CST! I would love to see you there (and if you can make it, be sure you join the chat cause there's a giveaway at the end and it's LOADS of fun)!
Lastly... Crafty adventures with MomChops!
This past weekend I had MomChops over for a whole day of crafting (it's been MONTHS since we got together for a day-o-crafts.... we aren't gonna let that much time pass again)! We started the day out early with breakfast and then got right into crafting!
A few months ago Patricia Seggebruch (a fellow teacher at Inspired) offered to send me one of her amazing EncaustiKits! You can learn all about them and get your own kit HERE!
I was over-the-top excited to give this a try!
Basically you take heated beeswax and paint and layer elements together on a hard surface. It's loaded with texture, dreamy and soft and just completely the most unusual and tremendously cool thing I have tried lately!!
MomChops watched zillions of videos last week on encaustic techniques and scoured her craft room for fun stuff to layer together (you can watch a good intro to encaustic art HERE)!
I started with an electric griddle pan!
(I found a cheap one at Walmart in the clearance bin... it looked like a hungry pancake maker tried to wrastle open the box - it has a small scratch on it).
A brand new one is roughly $19.
The kit comes with 3 colors of wax (and one clear) and containers for each.
You simply place the containers on the hot pan (200 degrees) and let them melt.
MomChops and I used tissue paper and string, wine cork slivers, fancy ribbon and lace and even printed napkins!
(I'll have to share my paper napkin collection sometime... it's kinda embarassing how many I have now)...
My name is Lolly, and I'm addicted to fancy printed paper napkins.
For reals.
I layered one of my favorite deer napkins with a Sizzix die cut of some little houses...
MomChops used pipe cleaners and lace...
...and discovered the drip method!
I really really got into doing all those drips!
Speaking of drips (that would be me)...
It's time for a small commercial break (this is a long post you know)...
While I was shopping for the griddle pan...
I accidentially bumped into a towering display of extra cheddar cheese goldfish!
(I haven't had goldfish since I was 7 years old).
Girls... these are insanely good!!!
My life will never be the same again.
Ever.
Don't get them. You won't be able to stop.
Sew... back to crafts!
Here is a little peep of the griddle pan with the melted wax containers and brushes!
...and...
These are MomChops completed projects!
...with a little close-up on her pipe cleaner heart!
...and...
These are the ones I created!
(I love those deer napkins)
...and here's another close-up of my drippy piece...
I love drippy spots made with wax!
(thanks for letting us try this Patricia... MomChops and I had a blast)
So that's all for me today! I hope you all have a terrific week (and sorry I have not responded to all of my comments from last week). Work was CRAY-ZEE in a big way!
Before I go... I have just one question for you guys... is there a craft or art technique or medium or tool or product you have been dying to try??? Please share! I would love to know what you're curious about (we gotta share our crafty passions with each other)!
P.S. More hugs than you can stand!!!!
Update: You can watch the recorded version of my Live with Prima - Dreamy Wall hanging class HERE!
