Since this is a craft blog, I'll skip the zillions of yard pics I took and just share a couple few peeps (with some dogs thrown in to help you get through it)!
Last year RonChops took out all the shrubbery in the front of our house. They were 30+ years old and looked ragged and haggled. We decided to wait a full year before putting in new shrubs to ensure that he had gotten out all of the roots from the old ones.
So basically... the house looked a little ahhhummm... naked for a while. As we were putting in the shrubs at least 4 neighbors stopped to tell us how nice everything looked. Mind you, the shrubs we put in are teeny tiny little things... but I guess some shrubs are better than no shrubs (I need a t-shirt with that phrase on it for all the neighbors... haha!).
Next up was the backyard...
...and holey smokes was it a hot mess of weeds! I almost didn't post these pics but sometimes you gotta share the good with the bad... and boy howdy was it ugly out there!!!
Which is prolly why I was so looking forward to this weed out... ALL. YEAR. LONG! Snort.
RonChops and I tackled this strip of weeds from either side and met up in the middle (somewhere near the hardy hibiscus). I kept having to get up to answer his "is this a weed???" question. I even yanked up a few non-weeds myself a few times!
All we have left to do is put down 47 54 bags of mulch and we're all done!!! YAY?!?!?!?!
On to crafts!!!
I made this little twig swag as my last project with Helmar. I decided not to reapply for the design/education team cause I have too darn much going on! It was a blast being a part of such a sweet group of girls (I'll always love my Helmar adhesives)!
You can watch the rerun of the UStream how-to make your own twig swag video HERE (and just FYI... the single teal fingernail was just an experiment... more on that later).
Front Porch Kits
Sometime during my break I altered this crazy little caterpillar (RonChops named her "Katie the Kit-R-Pillar"). She's the April mascot for Front Porch Kits - Fresh from the Garden (she's fresh alright)!!!
You can see some of the April kits stacked in our kitchen behind her... the boxes took over the kitchen and living room this month!!! ...oh and we still have 2 kits left in case you might want to order one (you can check them out HERE)!
My favorite part of creating Katie... was her teal garden hat...
I made him a little door sign for his man craft room (but for some reason he's not on board with hanging it up... I can't even imagine why???)! You can check out the how-to for this project on the Crate Paper blog HERE!
Creative Journals for Prima
Next up are the two projects I'll be sharing on Live with Prima for May! This first fella is one of my favorites! It's a little mini book/journal you can use to jot down notes, staple magazine clippings and other random bits of design inspiration! I'll be doing this class from The Little Blue House in Keller, TX tomorrow night on UStream (May 3 - 8:30PM CST) right HERE!
If you can watch this show live... I highly recommend you giving it a little peep! I have a super special surprise in honor of Cinco de Mayo week (think live music folks)!!! I am over the top excited about this!!!
Also... before the live show tomorrow night I'll be teaching this little basket class (we still have 3 spots left so give the gals at the LBH a call if you want to sign up). The number is 817-431-7930.
This little basket was another Live with Prima class I did last month! It's teal-tastic!
This last Prima project is another journal/mini book I created specifically for gals who like to go to scrapbook and artistic retreats.
I am going to be heading to teach at Donna Downey's Inspired workshop in two weeks and wanted a way to capture all of the fun memories and mementos! You can customize this journal/mini book using the name of the workshop/retreat you attend with jute twine! I'll show you how the whole thing goes together during my show live from Inspired!!!! The date of that class is May 12 (I'll share loads more details as the time draws near)!
The Box Pleat Paper Border
I created this quick little video for Front Porch Kits (after the single teal fingernail experiment during the Helmar show, I went all out and painted them ALL teal). It's a paper border technique I shared on Live with Prima last month and I wanted a separate video that highlights exactly how to create this super easy little border!
Whew... so that's all I gots (well not really... but I gotta save something for next week right???)!
I'll be back next Monday with a little project I have been working over the past two weeks. It involves power tools and vicious fishes... tons and tons of vicious fishes! I can hardly wait to share it with you!
I hope you are all having a lovely spring/summer! ...and if you have any crafty project links... post them in the comments! I would love to see what you have been up to as well!!!!
