Hello tweets! I have another little birdie to share today (and more bird stories too).
I decided to go for a more colorful approach for today's bird! She's comprised of browns, oranges and the best color in the universe...TEAL!
If you have any questions about these birds and how they go together, just let me know! I'll answer them in the comments so everyone can see!
Let's get started with today's tutorial!
Start by cutting out the Bird #2 pattern and pinning it to the material of your choice.
I did double layers of wool felt again for the 2 body bases.
I also cut out just the head from a brown piece of felt.
You can get the pattern for today's bird below!
Download the PDF pattern for Bird #2 HERE!
Once I had the bird body base and head cut out, I then cut out the chest piece (from the paper pattern) and pinned it to a contrasting color of felt.
I wanted to show a little bit more detail on how I make the pillow wings... so here goes!
Take the wing pattern and trace all the way around it and then trace again about 1/4 inch around the outside.
Sew around the original line you traced from the paper pattern (and leave an opening for stuffing)!
...mmmm... stuffing...
Trim the excess off the edges and then right side out the wing.
Lightly stuff it and sew the opening closed!
I then cut out more leafy feather shapes and using the felt glue pictured above...
(which is just about empty cause I've had it since the first ice age)
...I then glued all the bird body parts to the bird base (along with the leafy feathers)...
I whip stitched the top of the wing pillow to the bird body...
...and this is when Fancy Francie came to light...
Meet Francie...
She's single. Sports teal (like a champ), orange and brown feathers.
She likes making jewelry (like that fancy brooch up there), line dancing, burly men with broad shoulders...and sunflower seeds.
Sunflower seeds are a must in any relationship, don't you think?
Francie has simple needs when he comes to her man...
All she asks is that he get along with her Dad...
...and her super friendly Uncle...
That's not too much to ask, is it?
Just kidding...
Poor Francie... I have a feeling she's gonna be single for a long long time.
But if you know a fella who might meet these simple criteria...
...email her at savemefrommyfreakyfamily@birdmail.com
This is what Fancy Francie's backside looks like.
(once all the beads and baubbles have been attached)
Once I had her fancied up, I smooshed the front sides to the other bird base from the initial cutting and did a quick blanket stitch all the way around the edges.
Before she was sealed up tight I lightly stuffed her with a little cotton fiber fill.
She looks artsy fartsy don't you think???
I hope you enjoyed today's bird tutorial!! Next Monday I'll be back with a little different spin on the next bird installment!
Oh and if you want to watch the rerun of the Live with Prima music box project I did last Thursday... you can watch it HERE!
Big HELLO's and thanks to all the girls who tuned in! You guys crack me up!
Lastly...
I wanted to share the second part of the Faber-Castell tutorial I did a couple of weeks ago! In this video I used the Gelatos and Pitt Artist Big Brush pens!
I hope you enjoy the video and that you guys have a terrific week!
P.S. Let me know if you're hanging in there with the bird tutorials or if I need to break this up some!
XOs!
